'De Buitenspelers'
Despite the fact that Johan Cruijff and Loius van Gaal were very much in favour of children spending time outdoors, it is, unfortunately, something we are seeing less and less of.
And it is for this reason that the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Johan Cruyff Foundation, the Krajicek Foundation, the Mulier Institute and Nickelodeon have joined forces to form an alliance called De Buitenspelers.
The aim of ‘De Buitenspelers’, which in Dutch means ‘outdoor players’ but also refers to the field position of ‘winger’, is to let children determine for themselves how outdoor play and sports should be encouraged. After all, a real outdoor player is headstrong, creative and will always find a place to play.
That’s why De Buitenspelers is a club that lets children think about how we can make play facilities in the Netherlands more fun, better, safer, and organised closer to home.
